Toronto Film Festival biz is officially under way as ATO Pictures announced it has taken over U.S. theatrical right for George Hickenlooper’s “Casino Jack” in advance of its fest world preem Thursday.
Pic, which stars Kevin Spacey as convincted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, was pulled back by producers after original distributor Metropolitan was unable to fulfill its contract. Canuck thesp Barry Pepper co-stars as his business partner Michael Scanlon and Jon Lovitz is their mob-connected buddy.
Art Takes Over, the distribution label co-founded by singer Dave Matthews and music exec Coran Capshaw, acquired rights from Rollercoaster Entertainment and plans a December release. eOne has Canadian rights.
ATO will distribute through Independent Distribution Partners, its partnership with Samuel Goldwyn Films.
ATO co-founder Johnathan Dorfman and acquisitions head Sarah Lash handled negotiations on behalf of ATO, Canuck producer Gary Howsam and CAA handled negotiations for Rollercoaster. Fox Home Entertainment will handle home entertainment.
