French politician pledges 3D boost

Paris region to get $6.8 mil for pic, vidgame biz

BRUSSELS — Paris is looking forward to the creation of a Euros 5 million ($6.8 million) fund for 3D film and vidgame production.

Initiative is a campaign pledge from Jean-Paul Huchon, re-elected Sunday as prexy of the Ile-de-France region, which includes the capital.

Fund is intended to reinforce the region’s digital film and gaming industry in the face of international competition. It will support feature films and vidgames using 3D and stereoscopic 3D techniques.

An annual budget of around $6.8 million would allow three to six projects to be supported, according to Huchon’s manifesto.

He hopes that supporting French projects will make the local industry less dependent on foreign commissions and remove the temptation to relocate.

Other campaign commitments include more training for young screenwriters and a policy initiative to improve TV series production. “We must support ambitious series that are up to American standards,” the manifesto says.
