‘Dragon’ tops Golden Bugs

Box office hit rules Swedish awards

STOCKHOLM — Helmer Niels Arden Oplev’s box office hit “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” was the big winner at Sweden’s Golden Bug Film Awards in Stockholm on Monday night.

Pic won best picture plus actress honors for Noomi Rapace and the audience award.

First-time helmer Lisa Siwe took director laurels for teenage drama “Glowing Stars,” with pic’s Anki Liden honored as supporting actress.

Best actor went to Claes Ljungmark for his perf in romantic comedy “The Rational Solution.”

“The Wedding Photographer” clicked, winning supporting actor for Kjell Bergqvist and best script for Ulf Malmros.

Michael Haneke nabbed foreign film for “The White Ribbon,” which won the Golden Globe in the same category earlier this month. “Ribbon” is Germany’s contender in the Oscar foreign-language film race.

In other awards, Hoyte van Hotema took cinematography for “The Girl,” and the documentary nod went to “Ebbe: -The Movie,” by Jane Magnusson and Karin af Klintberg.

An honorary Golden Bug was awarded to producer Waldemar Bergendahl.

Casting director Maggie Widstrand was honored for her contribution to children’s film, while animator Isac Gjertsen, line producer Malte Forssell and editor-composer Johan Soderberg were also feted for their contribution to the industry.

There was a lot of debate in Sweden about this year’s Golden Bugs noms. Many critics lamented the fact that smaller, arthouse films that had done well on the fest circuit — including “Burrowing,” “The Girl,” “Metropia” and “Videocrazy” — were overlooked in favor of more commercial films.
