‘Monster Garage’ open for new season

New edition will be based in Detroit

After ending its run in 2006, “Monster Garage” is gearing up for a second life.

Back on Discovery Channel but with a new title, “MG: Motor City,” this new edition of the series will be based in Detroit. Skein will premiere in the fall.

With seven days and $3,000 to work with, participants will modify average cars into off-the-wall, highly functioning vehicles that will compete for prizes.

Series is produced by Original Prods. Thom Beers and Tom McMahon are exec producers for Original; Tim Pastore is exec producer for Discovery.

Bringing the series to Detroit, which has been extremely hard hit by the economic downturn — including the just-announced bankruptcy of General Motors — was a way to help the city cope with difficult times.

“It’s a terrific opportunity for our series to hire local workers and showcase the talented people of Detroit,” said Beers.

The previous version of the show ran for five seasons with Jesse James as host. No new host has been named.
