Singapore’s MDA shuffles board

Seven join staff for media unit

HONG KONG — Singapore’s Media Development Authority has appointed seven new members to its 16-person board.

They include Zaihirat Banu, CEO of film and TV producer Oak3 Films; Douglas Abrams, managing director of entrepreneurship training and advisory services company Expara; and Tan Meng Dui, a serving brigadier general who is also director of military intelligence for the Singapore armed forces.

They replace departing members, including film director Eric Khoo, and are appointed for two years.

“I am certain that the new board will be able to guide and set the right strategic directions for MDA and turn Singapore into a trusted global media capital,” MDA chairman Tan Chin Nam said.

“Despite the current global economic slowdown … we remain optimistic about the future, as our efforts in the rollout of the media industry blueprint, Media 21, and promotion of Made-by-Singapore content under the collective branding of Singapore Media Fusion, have yielded considerable results locally and internationally,” Tan said.

Separately, the MDA announced Monday that it will provide S$7.6 million ($5 million) to five media projects ranging from game development to media-rich learning.
