Sony Pictures TV expands abroad

Studio opens prod'n companies in Spain, Italy

Sony Pictures Television is continuing to strengthen its global production operations with the launch of shingles in Spain and Italy.

Toro Producciones in Madrid will be run by Marco Tombolini, a former Endemol executive who has worked on series including “Deal or No Deal” and “Big Brother.”

Toro Produzioni in Rome will be headed by Pasquale Romano, who also will serve as senior VP and director, creative affairs, in both countries. Romano is the creator of long-running format “The Recommended.”

The move continues SPT’s expansion of its production biz in the U.S. and abroad, with the acquisition of Michael Davies’ New York-based Embassy Row earlier this year, and past purchases of stakes in the U.K.’s Shine, the Netherlands’ Tuvalu and France’s Starling.
