Oyxgen sets Simmons reality show

'Project' to focus on hip-hop mogul's associates

Oxygen is getting into business with hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons.

Docu series, tentatively titled “The Russell Simmons Project,” will focus on the women who make up his team of associates.

In describing the show, cabler noted, “Russell’s assistants not only manage his business deals but also his family life, party planning and love life — a commitment that is 24/7… Their glam jobs bring them face-to-face with everyone from former presidents and international royalty to Hollywood’s elite.”

Oxygen said that Simmons’ colleagues includes “confidantes, fierce gatekeepers, dating coaches, spiritual advisers, philanthropic czars, business liaisons and more.”

Simmons Lathan Media Group and Picture This TV are behind the project, which will be exec produced by “Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List” exec producers Bryan Scott and Lisa M. Tucker.”Seeing his world through the eyes of his dream team comprised of strong, passionate women provides a unique experience for our viewers,” said Oxygen original programming/development senior VP Amy Introcaso-Davis.

One strong woman in Simmons’ life who it appears won’t be involved in the project: ex-wife Kimora Lee Simmons, the mother of his two daughters and the star of her own reality show (Style’s “Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane”). The Simmons’ divorce was finalized earlier this year; the duo are parents to two daughters.

Simmons Lathan Media was also behind HBO’s long-running “Def Comedy Jam,” as well as “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry” and MTV’s “Run’s House.”

“Throughout my career I have surrounded myself with people smarter than me,” Simmons said. “This show will let them shine and provide insight into how we build our empire.”
