Montana Artists Agency has tapped Ralph Berge as senior VP of television and Nick Malkin as commercial department head.

Berge, previously senior VP at CBS Paramount TV, brings 20 years of experience to the below-the-line agency, which suffered a blow when president Jon Furie died this summer.

Berge spent the early part of his career concentrating on made-fors, supervising more than 100 during a six-year exec stint at TNT and more than 65 more for Par TV, before shifting to series work when the TV movie market dried up. Among the shows he oversaw: “NCIS,” “Three Rivers,” “Melrose Place” and “Medium.”

Now he’s concentrating on getting work for clients he used to hire himself.

“The question always is, ‘Can you switch from buyer to seller?’ but you’re always a seller in this business,” Berge said. “You’re always selling why it’s a good idea or why this person is a good fit.”

Malkin joins MAA from UTA, where he worked alongside commercial and musicvid tenpercenter Robert Arakelian. Malkin, London born and bred, started in UTA’s training program in 2004 after graduating from UCLA’s producers program.
