Kudrow, Bucatinsky feel ‘Rapture’

Duo set Showtime show

Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky are developing a laffer for Showtime revolving around the memoir by thesp-writer Craig Chester. Don Roos is on board to direct should the project be picked up to pilot.

Chester’s 2003 memoir “Why the Long Face?: The Adventures of a Truly Independent Actor” tells the story of his childhood as the gay son in a family of born-again Christian parents and his experiences as a thesp in the indie film world.

TV adaptation, tentatively titled “Rapture,” would be told from the perspective of 9-year-old Chester who’s coming to terms with his sexual orientation while dealing with a devout mom who has visions of Christ and a rock ‘n’ roll guitar player dad who fears his wife is losing her mind.

Kudrow and Bucatinsky will exec produce through the duo’s Is or Isn’t Entertainment banner. Chester and comedy vets Paul Miller and Kimber Rickabaugh will also exec produce.

Kudrow, Bucatinsky and Roos are the creative team behind the upcoming NBC unscripted skein “Who Do You Think You Are?,” in which celebs will go through the process of researching their family’s genealogical histories. Kudrow, Susan Sarandon and Sarah Jessica Parker are among the thesps set to participate. Peacock is expected to announce a preem date for the seven-episode series in the near future.
