Below-the-line workers opposed to the IATSE contract ratification will demonstrate outside the Spirit Awards on Saturday.

The “Say No to 400 hours” coalition has called for supporters to wear red and picket at 10 a.m.

The protest is aimed at drawing attention to the health plan eligibility portion of the tentative deal signed last fall by leaders of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees for its West Coast locals. The deal provides that during the final year of the pact, starting on July 31, 2011, members will be required to work 400 hours – up from the current 300-hour rule — over a six month period to stay eligible.

The 20 IATSE locals represent about 30,000 members.
