Comedy Central taps new VP

Lisa Leingang tops original programming

Comedy Central has hired Lisa Leingang as senior VP of original programming and development for the East Coast.

Leingang, who began Monday and reports to topper Lauren Carrao, will oversee development and production on the cabler’s pilots and series based out of Gotham. She’ll mine the local comedy clubs and tap into her connections with the theater community, where she has close ties.

Leingang arrives at the net from CBS, where she was VP for primetime programming and development. Her most recent series include “The Good Wife,” which launches on the Eye in the fall.

Prior to coming to CBS, Leingang worked on the comedy development side for NBC.

“I’ve spent eight years at the broadcast networks but have always maintained a sensibility more in line with Comedy Central,” Leingang told Daily Variety. “The shows I’ve developed and talent I’ve worked with have that sensibility. It’s a perfect opportunity for me. I’ll try to cover New York as much as possible and raise the level of what we’re doing here. We want to get new voices on the network, and I enjoy finding those people.”
