Cancer telecast raises $100 million

Standup to Cancer backed by Couric, Lansing

Standup to Cancer, the charitable initiative backed by Katie Couric and former Par CEO Sherry Lansing, has raised close to $100 million for cancer research.

The funds were mostly raised through the joint-network telecast on Sept. 5 featuring cancer survivors Christina Applegate, Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow and other celebrities.

Operating with scientists and institutions, Standup hopes to put cancer research on the fast track by promoting cooperation instead of competition in the science world. The aim is to get new treatments to patients more quickly using donor dollars.

On Wednesday the org will announce the $73.6 million in grants going to five research teams globally.
