At Thursday’s opening night perf of the Shakespeare in the Park production of “Twelfth Night,” it didn’t rain once — a delightful surprise to New Yorkers grumbling about a weeklong stretch of wet weather.

That meant the Public Theater’s annual outdoor gala, which honored director Mike Nichols and Public Theater board member Susan Lyne, could proceed unimpeded.

Steve Martin, Martin Short, Amy Ryan, Liev Schreiber and Sandra Bernhard were among the those who turned up for the pre-show eats, catered by Gotham restaurateur Danny Meyer.

Nora Ephron introduced honoree Nichols or, rather, she didn’t.

“He needs no introduction,” she said. “But even if he did, tonight is not the night he is getting one.”

After dinner it was off to the opening night of “Twelfth Night,” the buzz-magnet staging toplined by Anne Hathaway with a cast that includes Audra McDonald, Julie White and Raul Esparza.

And then the long — but still rain-free! — night wrapped up with another alfresco shindig, this one at nearby Belvedere Castle.
