Derwent Awards for Bernstine, Tveit

Actors' Equity honors New York stage newcomers

Handing out separate honors for fresh talent and vets, Actors’ Equity has chosen Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Aaron Tveit to receive this year’s Clarence Derwent Awards for most promising New York stage newcomers, while Lynn Cohen and Roger Robinson bagged the annual Richard Seff Awards for seasoned character actors in a supporting role in a Broadway or Off Broadway production.

Bernstine was recognized for her work as a Congolese victim of rape and sexual mutilation in Pulitzer winner “Ruined”; Tveit won for his role as the enigmatic teenage son in the musical “Next to Normal.” The nods carry a cash prize of $2,000 each. Cohen and Robinson receive $1,000, respectively, for Primary Stages production of “Chasing Manet” and Lincoln Center Theater’s Broadway revival of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.”
