John Mahoney in a Hugh Leonard play and Amy Morton directing a production of “Awake and Sing” — starring her “August: Osage County” co-star Rondi Reed — are among the offerings on tap for the 35th anniversary season at Chicago’s Northlight Theater.
Thesp-helmer Morton’s staging of Clifford Odets’ 1935 play “Awake and Sing” will star Mike Nussbaum and Reed, who picked up a Tony last spring for her perf in “August: Osage County.” Show begins perfs in January 2010.
In March 2010 Mahoney (“Frasier”) will topline “A Life,” Leonard’s sequel to his play “Da,” about a man looking back on his friendships in a small Irish town. Northlight a.d. BJ Jones helms.
Also on the theater’s sked are tuner “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” an L.A. and Gotham alum bowing in Chi in September, and “Souvenir,” the Florence Foster Jenkins bio-play (which had a run on Broadway that began in 2005), opening at Northlight in November.
One more season offering remains to be announced.
