London fans flood ‘Potter’ premiere

Rain can't keep crowds from hailing 'Prince'

LONDON — Even a torrential downpour and the threat of swine flu couldn’t keep the crowds from turning out for the Leicester Square preem of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.”

Tuesday’s unveiling of the sixth installment of the wildly successful Warner Bros. franchise saw studio chief Alan Horn join J.K. Rowling, producer David Heyman and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who had only recently recovered from a mild bout of swine flu, greeted by a thunderstorm lifted straight out of one of the series’ elaborate set pieces.

“We’ve been thrilled with the incredible support from so many fans, who braved this downpour to show just how passionately they care about Harry Potter,” said Warner Bros. U.K. chief Josh Berger. “The most successful franchise in film history continues to grow and grow.”

After-party was at Middle Temple.
