The Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) will host the 19th annual Gotham Independent Film Awards Ceremony on Dec. 1 at Cipriani Wall Street in Gotham.
IFP is accepting submissions for five out of six categories: feature, documentary, breakthrough actor, breakthrough director and ensemble performance. The sixth category, best film not playing at a theater near you, is invitation only.
The deadline for submission is Sept. 21.
The Gotham Independent Film Awards honor independently distributed American feature films.
“As the first awards of the season, the Gothams serve as a springboard for the newest talent in the long run-up to end of year accolades,” said IFP exec director Michelle Byrd.
However, IFP is not the only org vying to be the first to announce award winners. The National Board of Review (NBR) also announced Monday that it will hold its annual gala at Cipriani on Jan. 12, although it will announce winners well before the big event, on Dec. 3, just two days after IFP’s choices are announced.
