Doorpost Film Project announces winners

'Butterfly' took top honors at shorts competition

The Doorpost Film Project announced the winners in its short film competition on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. According to organizers, the $175,000 cash purse is the largest of any shortsfest.

Joshua Weigel’s “The Butterfly Circus” took top honors and a $100,000 cash prize for his Depression era tale of the competish theme, Hope. Second place and $35,000 went to Michael and Nick Regalbuto for their film “La Premiere,” and $25,000 for third place went to Brent McCorkle’s “The Rift.”

Committee included “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwick, “The Godfather I, II, III” producer Fred Roos, producers Jeff “The Dude” Dowd, Ralph Winter and screenwriter Larry Lasker.
