ROME — Bestselling Brazilian scribe Paulo Coelho is coming to Cannes to tubthump “The Experimental Witch,” a Web-generated pic that will have its world preem at the Rome Film Festival in October.

The film is an adaptation of Coelho’s novel “The Witch of Portobello,” in which the titular contempo witch, who is named Athena and has prophetic powers, is described by 15 narrators.

Last June, Coelho invited filmmakers from around the world to submit their interpretations of each of the book’s narratives to his MySpace page.

Winning submissions are now posted on Coelho’s blog, paulocoelhoblog.com. The montage of video and music submissions, curated by Coelho and executive produced by Italian publishing exec and experimental filmmaker Elisabetta Sgarbi, will bow in the Rome fest’s Extra sidebar, which is dedicated to works in non-conventional formats. In Rome, Coelho will engage in an onstage conversation with section topper Mario Sesti.

The Rome fest itself holds a cocktail in Cannes on Tuesdayat the Plages des Palmes with Coelho in attendance.
