Thornton joins Johnson for ‘Faster’

George Tillman to direct action drama

Billy Bob Thornton is set to star with Dwayne Johnson in “Faster,” the George Tillman-directed action drama that will begin production early next year.

Pic is a co-production of CBS Films and Sony Worldwide Acquisitions Group.

Johnson plays Driver, an ex-con out to avenge his brother’s murder. Thornton plays Cop, a veteran policeman who trails Driver as he races to settle with those responsible for the murder. Also in the mix is Killer, an egocentric hitman who’s after Driver. That role hasn’t been cast yet.

Joe and Tony Gayton wrote the script.

Castle Rock’s Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer are producing with Tony Gayton and Robert Teitel, Tillman’s State Street Pictures partner. Joe Gayton is exec producer.

Thornton most recently starred in “Eagle Eye” and is co-producing “Three Nights in August,” an adaptation of the H.G. “Buzz” Bissinger book about a three-game series in 2003 between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.
