Thessaloniki picks Crossroads films

17 contenders compete for $15,000

MOSCOW — Greece’s Thessaloniki Film Festival Friday announced the 17 contenders for its $15,000 Crossroads co-production forum, which helps projects at script stages from the Balkan and Mediterranean regions progress through development.

The projects at this year’s Crossroads, which takes places Nov. 16-18, come from Bulgaria, Cyprus, France, Greece, Israel, Jordan, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Syria and Turkey.

The producers of the projects will be introduced to a variety of international industry professionals, providing them with the opportunity to meet distributors, broadcasters, sales agents and consultants.

The best project, judged by Helen Loveridge, sales agent, Meridiana Films, U.K., Isabelle Fauvel, development consultant, Initiative Films, France, and Alexander Ris, producer, Neue Mediopolis Filmproduktion, Germany, will win the Crossroads award of E10,000 ($15,000). The winning producer will also gain a free accreditation for the Producer’s Network in the Cannes Film Festival and the winning project will be presented in March at the Sofia Meetings.

“The Future Lasts Forever,” director: Ozcan Alper, producer: Ersin Celik, Nar Films, Turkey

“The Judgement,” director/producer: Stefan Komandarev, Argo Film, Bulgaria
