Myriad Pictures and RKO Pictures’ genre division, the Roseblood Movie Co., are teaming to co-finance and produce a film based on an original screenplay by Bret Easton Ellis.
Brad Furman (“The Take”) is set to direct the untitled project, which is scheduled to begin lensing in late summer. Story centers on an awkward social outcast who, after being humiliated by a group of peers, exacts revenge by taking them hostage, with dire consequences.
RKO’s Ted Hartley, Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico and Ithaka Films’ Braxton Pope are producing. Zanne Devine, Michael Helfant and Amanda Blue exec produce.
Project marks the first in a series of films that Myriad and RKO are in discussions to co-produce.
Ellis penned novels “American Psycho,” “Less Than Zero” and “The Rules of Attraction,” which were all made into films.
Furman is attached to direct “Valet” for Alcon Entertainment.
Santa Monica-based Myriad has an upcoming slate that includes Ewan McGregor starrer “The Electric Slide” and the dark comedy “Serious Moonlight.”
Roseblood, which specializes in youth-oriented horror/thrillers, has a number of pictures in development, including “Seventh Victim” and “Lady Scarface.”
