After launching in past years with major-studio releases, the Los Angeles Film Festival has selected “Paper Man” as its opening-night pic June 18.
Fest toppers tout that they wanted a true American indie to launch the event. The comedy, from writer-directors Michele and Kieran Mulroney, stars Jeff Daniels, Lisa Kudrow, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone.
Pic will make its world premiere with the screening at the Mann Village.
“Paper,” which doesn’t yet have distribution, is produced by Richard Gladstein through FilmColony, Guymon Casady through Film 360 (the production arm of Management 360), and Art Spigel and Ara Katz through Artfire Films. Artfire also fully financed. Exec producers are Dan Fireman from Artfire and Fireman Capital Partners and Darin Friedman from Film 360.
Festival director Rebecca Yeldham stressed that the org wanted to find an independent film to launch the fest, which will run through June 28.
