The Independent Filmmaker Project and the U.N. Dept. of Public Information have announced a new annual forum to address global issues via documentaries.
Project’s dubbed “Envision” and will kick off Thursday and Friday at the DGA Theatre in New York with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Also appearing will be Kiyo Akasaka, U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, along with discussions led by Christy Turlington Burns, Jonathan Demme and Mira Nair and a performance by UNICEF spokeswoman Sarah Jones.
“For many years, IFP has been looking for a way to leverage documentaries to initiate a larger conversation about the diverse and important subject matters these films explore,” said Michelle Byrd, IFP exec director.
Several documentaries will be screened at the forum including “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” “Rough Aunties,” and “The Glass House.”
