IFC goes for ‘Afterschool’

Film set for limited release Oct. 2

IFC Films has acquired North American rights to drama “Afterschool,” the debut feature of Antonio Campos.

The film premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section and went on to screen at the New York, AFI, South by Southwest and Berlin film festivals. It was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for first film.

Cast includes Ezra Miller in his feature debut, Michael Stuhlbarg (“A Serious Man”) and Rosemarie DeWitt (“Rachel Getting Married”). The film was produced by Sean Durkin and Josh Mond from Borderline Films in association with Hidden Street Prods.

IFC will release “Afterschool” on Oct. 2 at the Cinema Village in New York and make it available through video-on-demand starting Sept. 30.

Story’s set in the insulated world of a New England prep school as a withdrawn student unwittingly captures on video the sudden deaths by drug overdose of a pair of popular twin girls.

Campos has directed more than 20 short films.
