Olive Garden is backtracking on reports that it is pulling ads from Letterman. It’s hard to discern whether it is really pulling ads, whether it has no future plans to advertise on the show, or whether it just can’t get out of the deal that they already have with CBS. For obvious reasons, most companies would rather not get engulfed in a political controversy, and the nature of media buys provide enough murkiness o just leave all sides guessing.

The Justice Department is arguing against releasing then-Vice President Dick Cheney’s interviews with Special Prosecutor Pat Fitzgerald in the Valerie Plame case. One of the reasons: Fear that it will be a “conduit to them being mocked.” The judge making the decision takes it further: The government doesn’t want to have what’s in these documents end up on a late-night comedy show.”
