The New NEA Chief: Rocco Landesman

The New York Times says that President Obama will name Broadway producer Rocco Landesman as chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tony Kushner: "It's potentially the best news the arts community in the United States has had since the birth of Walt Whitman."

Landesman, who brought "Angels in America," "Big River" and "The Producers" to Broadway, still has to be confirmed by Congress. But the tougher battle may be seeking to increase the NEA's budget at a time of fiscal strain.
