Richard B. Kendall, Laura W. Brill and Robert N. Klieger, entertainment litigators whose corporate clients include CBS and Viacom, have left Irell & Manella to form Kendall Brill & Klieger.
Among the major entertainment clients that followed the group to the new firm are Paramount Pictures, MTV Networks and Clear Channel.
At Irell & Manella, Klieger also represented director Peter Jackson’s Wingnut Films in its profit participation dispute with New Line Cinema over the “Lord of the Rings” franchise.
Kendall Brill & Klieger focuses on civil litigation and appellate matters, including intellectual property, entertainment, complex contract, commercial and constitutional litigation.
Said Michael Fricklas, general counsel of Viacom, “We are delighted by this announcement. The Kendall Brill & Klieger team have represented our companies, including Paramount Pictures and MTV Networks, for many years. Their results in the trial and appellate courts have been nothing short of extraordinary.”
Jonathan Anschell, general counsel of CBS Television, said, “CBS Television, like other CBS operating divisions, has worked closely with this trio for many years, and their results in small and large disputes have been outstanding. They bring an unusual blend of excellent brief-writing and toughminded trial skills to every case.”
The firm, which has pledged to institute a form of profit sharing for all attorneys after its first year in operation, says it will maintain a strong relationship with Irell & Manella.
