TOKYO — Pic producer and distrib Nikkatsu has acquired the international rights acquisition and management arm of AMG Entertainment.
Through the takeover, Nikkatsu intends to strengthen both its international buying and domestic rights management capabilities. The deal involves not only AMG’s acquisitions team, but rights to 300 pics. The price was not announced.
Nikkatsu and AMG concluded the deal on July 3 and Nikkatsu will complete the takeover on Aug. 31.
In the fiscal year ending in July 2008, AMG’s international rights acquisition and management biz recorded sales of $6 million and an operating profit of $878,000.
Among the rights acquired for the pics are theatrical, video, TV broadcasting and Internet webcasting.
Launched in 2000, AMG produces and acquires content for a range of media, as well as engaging in talent training and other businesses. Group companies include toon house Pierrot and pic distrib Movie-Eye Entertainment.
