Starz will air a trilogy of movies in December based on the “Booky” children’s book series by Canadian author Bernice Thurman Hunter.
The cabler acquired the films from Shaftesbury Sales Co., which also made “Booky” deals with the U.K.’s Sky Movies and Canadian homevideo distributor Phase 4.
“Booky Makes Her Mark” stars Tatiana Maslany as the 15-year-old title character, with Rachel Marcus taking over the role for “Booky and the Secret Santa” and “Booky’s Crush,” in which Booky is 11. Megan Follows appears as Booky’s mother in all three pics.Starz will premiere “Secret Santa” on Dec. 9, followed by “Mark” on Dec. 13 and “Crush” on Dec. 29.
“Mark” aired on Canadian television in 2006, followed by “Secret Santa” in 2007 and “Crush” this past February. Sky Movies acquired the rights to the latter two, while Phase 4 nabbed “Secret Santa.”
Peter Moss directed all three pics and also exec produced for Platt Prods., with Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie exec producing for Shaftesbury Films in association with CBC Television.
