U.K. Film Council coin to come over three years

LONDON — Public funding org the U.K. Film Council has granted the Times BFI London Film Festival $2.7 million (£1.8 million) over the next three years.

The increase in coin will be used to up the fest’s profile in the U.K. and abroad, with a greater effort to secure world and international preems, as well as ramp up international media coverage by inviting more foreign journos to attend.

Among the new projects to be funded by the cash increase will be a cross-London film event in partnership with the Mayor of London’s office, tentatively titled Big Film Night, as well as higher-profile awards categories during the fest.

The 53rd edition of the London fest unspools Oct. 14-29.
