Bing Crosby‘s restaurant and piano lounge bowed tonight in San Diego’s Fashion Valley Mall — with widow Kathryn Crosby on hand to sing some of Der Bingle’s hits. She reprised “Pennies From Heaven” along with other favorites in duets with Bob Pasch with whom Kathryn performs her act successfully cross country.

Also on hand for the eatery/lounge bow was daughter Mary C. and husband Mark Brodka who had created the Crosby web site.  The eatery is the third in the proposed chain, two successfully already in Rancho Mirage and Walnut Grove by Dudum Sports Enterprises’ Jeff and Rick Dudum. Mary says, “My mom is so pleaased with them.” (The Crosbys are not involved financially in the eateries). Mary continues her career in Henry Jaglom’s “Queen Of The Lot” — and Kathryn will have a role as “a great movie star.”

Praise for the Bing Crosby’s Restaurant in Rancho Mirage comes to us from Nancy Sinatra, Jr. who toasts its “ambiance, decor — food.” She says the Sinatras have also talked about a restaurant in Frank’s name — like a launching in Las Vegas. But, she says, they decided it would be too expensive a venture.

I also asked Nancy about Michael Feinstein’s “Sinatra Project” album. “He sent me one weeks ago,” she said. “He’s not copying (Frank). It’s a tribute — with songs including: “A Small Hotel,” “The Song Is You,” “Begin the Beguine,” “I’ve Got A Crush On You,” “You Go To My Head,” “All The Way,” and to prove her praise, she played his Feinstein’s version of “No Harm Done” on her radio show. “Michael asked me to be on his U.K. tour with him,” Nancy also said — but she’s unable –she’s readying her album with Alan Broadbent — who also worked on Michael’s.
