An overnight at the Hearst Castle is going up for auction. As the diamond in this year’s 50th anniversary of tours at the legendary Hearst Castle, starting 8:30 p.m. PST September 17, and ending 8:30 p.m. PST September 27 the auction will be on eBay Giving Works on the About Me Page. The culmination of the auction will take place on September 27 at the 10th Enchanted Evening at Hearst Castle when guests there will have their final chance to bid. The winner along with eight guests will, of course have a tour plus a swim on the Neptune pool , hors d’oeuvres and wines in William Randolph Hearst’s own wine cellar, a gourmet feast on the Neptune Terrace, a movie in Hearst’s private theater, cigars and brandy . I visualized that original glamorous nights when my family and I visited the Hearst Castle when I wrote for Hearst newspapers and magazines in Hollywood’s glamorous late 1940’s. Now, a winning bidder and his eight guests will have an opportunity to try and re-live that era. The guests will overnight at the Cottontail Creek Ranch while the winning couple retires upstairs to be the first to spend the night in the Castle’s south wing in more than 50 years. Carol Schreiber of the Friends of Hearst Castle (FHC) promises the “Hearst Castle Overnight” will be “the ultimate evening, rich in elegance, experience and excitement.” The Castle has been preserved in its original splendor and glamour and for the first time in 50 years, this invitation for one memorable night is up for the winning bid.” The Friends of Hearst Castle is a non-profit organization supporting the preservation and interpretation of Hearst Castle. In addition to year-long events celebrating the Castle’s tour anniversary, the L.A. County Museum of Art will present an exhibition of some of the thousands of Hearst art collection Nov.5 through Feb. 1.
