S. Africa gets glimpse of EarthTV

SABC2 airs 90-second shorts from 'Live'

JOHANNESBURG — Pubcaster channel SABC2 is airing 90-second shorts from EarthTV’s “The World Live” produced by Earth Television Network, part of Germany’s Telcast Media.

The shorts, which give live glimpses of different places on EarthTV’s global media network, started Monday.

SABC2 has also licensed a local version of the format, which will feature feeds from EarthTV cameras in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Londolozi in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. More EarthTV camera installations are planned for the near future.

The shorts, often used by networks as lead-ins to news bulletins, offer a snapshot of daily life, weather information and event details from all over the world. The shorts are used by broadcasters and multimedia platforms globally, including NHK in Japan, France 2, Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 Group, NDTV in India and CCTV in China.

Telcast president and CEO Thomas Hohenacker said EarthTV is delighted to be working with SABC 2.

“Their enthusiasm is allowing us to develop a dynamic new template for EarthTV and I am confident that this will be the first of many country and regional versions of EarthTV.”
