JOHANNESBURG — The South African Broadcasting Corp. has inked an output deal with Power Studios for NBC series “Crusoe,” which is in production in Plettenberg Bay on the southern coast of South Africa.
Written by Stephen Gallagher (“Eleventh Hour”) and directed by Duane Clark (“CSI: NY”), the 13-part drama series is based on Daniel Defoe’s famous novel about the castaway Robinson Crusoe.
It is being produced by British production company Power Studios for NBC with co-production by South Africa’s Moonlighting Films and Canada’s Muse, and features Philip Winchester, Sean Bean, Anna Walton and Sam Neill.
Power Studies is extending its presence in Africa through multi-year output deals with the regions’ top broadcasters. The SABC deal involves more than 600 hours of programming from Power, covering its entire 2008-09 slate.
Other titles from Power include thrillers “XII: The Conspiracy,” a two-parter also for NBC, starring Val Kilmer and Stephen Dorff, and “The Summit,” starring Mia Maestro, James Purefoy and Christopher Plummer.
