LONDON — MBC, the Arab world’s first and still most popular privately owned pan-Arab satcaster, is about to get even bigger following the launch of new film channel MBC Max.
The web, which began airing on Oct. 26, follows the success of MBC2, the Arab world’s first 24-hour free-to-air film channel.
MBC Max will focus on upbeat, family-friendly fare.
“MBC is proud to have built one of the biggest free to air movie libraries in the world,” said Tim Riordan, group TV director, MBC Group. “Such has been the success of MBC2 across the Arab world that we are launching a second movie channel to offer our viewers more choice, and to consolidate our position as the home of movies in the Middle East.”
Some examples of the films to be screened on the channel are those in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, “Robots” and “Nim’s Island.”
The MBC Group network includes general entertainment channel MBC1, film web MBC2, kids net MBC3, English-language MBC4, genre channel MBC Action and newscaster Al-Arabiya.
