DUBAI — Fox Series has debuted in the Arab world as the business partnership between Rupert Murdoch and Prince Waleed bin Talal deepens. It is the second Dubai-based Fox venture with Rotana and is part of the LBC-Rotana conglom. Fox Movies hit the air in May.
Introducing the Fox brand to the region required a multimillion-dollar investment, said Ward Platt, president of Fox Intl. Channels (FIC) Asia and Middle East. Rotana “has the ability to generate revenue, but it will take time to make enough money to break even,” Platt said at the channel’s launch in Dubai last week.
Fox Network’s link into the Middle East is Rotana’s Prince Waleed bin Talal, who is News Corp’s second largest individual shareholder through his Kingdom Holding Company.
Fox Series debuted here with daily weekday broadcasts of the third season of “Desperate Housewives.”
