CBS Monday stays hot

'CSI' carries network to demo victory

Strong performances by its comedy lineup and vet drama “CSI: Miami” carried CBS to a demo victory on Monday night, while ABC remained on top in total viewers thanks to “Dancing With the Stars.”

According to Nielsen preliminary estimates, CBS ran second to “Dancing” in the night’s opening hour with “The Big Bang Theory” (3.1 rating/9 share in adults 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) and “How I Met Your Mother” (4.0/11 in 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall), with the latter continuing to shine in its new timeslot, building by 2 shares on its lead-in. The Eye then peaked at 9 o’clock with “Two and a Half Men” (5.3/13 in 18-49, 14.4 million viewers overall) — the night’s top program in 18-49 — and held up well at 9:30 with the season finale of “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (4.4/11 in 18-49, 12.4 million viewers overall), which hit season highs.

Closing out the night, “CSI: Miami” was the clear leader in its time period (4.8/12 in 18-49, 15.5 million viewers overall), on par with its strong return to action of the previous week.

At ABC, “Dancing With the Stars” logged a projected 5.1/13 in 18-49 and 20.5 million viewers overall from 8 to 9:36 p.m., on par with the previous week’s two-hour average and winning its time period in all key categories. “The Bachelor” (projected 2.8/7 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall from 9:36 to 11 p.m.) closed out the night with decent numbers, up a bit week to week.

NBC started weakly at 8 o’clock with “My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall) and then spiked up at 9 with “Deal or No Deal” (2.7/7 in 18-49, 10.0 million viewers overall). “Medium” finished the evening with a second-place performance (3.0/8 in 18-49, 9.5 million viewers overall), drawing its largest overall audience in its last seven firstrun airings.

Fox had a slow night, faring better at 8 o’clock with a “House” repeat (2.6/7 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall) than at 9 with a new episode of “New Amsterdam” (2.1/5 in 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 4.4/11; ABC, 4.0/10; NBC and Fox, 2.4/6; Univision, 1.9/5; CW, 0.5/1.

In total viewers: ABC, 14.5 million; CBS, 12.7 million; NBC, 8.0 million; Fox, 7.1 million; Univision, 4.2 million; CW, 1.2 million.
