Canuck movie webs find ‘Sanctuary’

'Miraculous Cures' developed by Sherman

Sci-fi 13-parter “Sanctuary” is one of three productions announced Monday by Canuck channels The Movie Network and Movie Central at the Banff World Television Festival.

Shot almost entirely on green screen, “Sanctuary” stars Amanda Tapping (“Stargate SG-1”) as a tracker who studies alien creatures on Earth, and co-stars Robin Dunne (“Dawson’s Creek”), Emilie Ullerup and Christopher Heyerdahl.

Series is exec produced by Tapping, creator Damian Kindler, director Martin Wood, writer Sam Egan (“The Outer Limits”), John Smith (“Stargate SG-1”) and Keith Beedie.

“Sanctuary” is in production in Vancouver and preems on TMN, Movie Central and the Sci Fi Channel in the U.S. in October.

Canadian playwrights provide the creative juice for TMN and Movie Central’s two other slated productions.

“Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures,” eight-parter based on Vincent Lam’s Giller Award-winning bestseller about young ER doctors, is developed and written by Jason Sherman (“ReGenesis”). Shooting begins next spring and series preems in fall 2009.

The second season of George F. Walker’s cop drama “The Weight,” co-written with Dani Romain, begins shooting this summer, with seasons one and two preeming consecutively in spring.

Astral Media’s TMN is a pay TV service available in eastern Canada, presenting Canadian programming, Hollywood hits, and HBO and Showtime series. Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central is a premium pay TV service offering similar programming in western Canada.
