Betancourt to hit ABC after NBC

'Good Morning' lands former Colombian hostage

WASHINGTON — NBC got the big “get” first, but ABC wasn’t far behind.

Ingrid Betancourt, the former hostage held six years in a Colombian jungle until last week, will appear on Wednesday’s broadcast of NBC’s “Nightly News With Brian Williams.” The Colombian-French politico, kidnapped by Marxist rebels during her 2002 run for Colombia’s presidency, will then show up Thursday ayem on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Ann Curry of NBC interviewed Betancourt in France. After airing initially on “Nightly News,” the interview will be rebroadcast on Thursday’s edition of “Today.”

The freeing of Betancourt and 14 other hostages — rescued in a dramatic governmental ruse that tricked the rebels — made headlines around the world.
