Although Kyle Bornheimer has appeared in numerous television shows and commercials, he is no household name, which is exactly what “Worst Week” exec producer Matt Tarses liked about him.

Tarses didn’t want an established star for the CBS skein based on the U.K. wedding-themed laffer, but he liked Bornheimer’s familiar face.

It was a face that CBS exec VP of comedy development Wendy Trilling — as well as Tarses’ father, sitcom guru Jay Tarses — wanted to see more of.

“Wendy and my dad both called me about Kyle after they saw him in a T-Mobile commercial,” Tarses explains.

Turns out Bornheimer had already auditioned for the role.

“He was one of the first actors I saw, but I was not ready to decide on anybody. When I looked at him a few months later, I felt like such a fool for not catching him the first time.”

According to Tarses, the thesp’s “unintimidating” looks and “refreshing, confident” take on the character worked like a charm the second time around.

CBS is hoping it doesn’t take viewers as long to warm up to him.
