The Waldorf Astoria benefit for Project ALS kicked off just as the second presidential debate began Oct. 7, and that may have prompted host Ben Stiller to make some changes to the 11th annual edition.
Thesp turned the gala into a latenight variety show complete with Jon Stewart, Chris Rock, musician Amos Lee and sidekick Sarah Silverman.
Stiller talked politics, kids and even plugged his and Rock’s upcoming animated pic, “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.”
Sarah Palin was the main topic of conversation once Stewart took the stage.
At one point Stiller reminded Stewart that “this is a not-for-profit event so technically we aren’t allowed to take (political) sides.”
“I’m not talking sides,” Stewart said with a slight grin. “I’m saying very positive things about a woman who is the governor of Alaska and who charged women for their rape kits. I’m saying she’s good for women.”
