Opening Overture

'Mad Money' makes big debut

HOLLYWOOD — Overture Films made a splashy entrance onto the preem scene on Jan. 9 with a lavish after-party following the bow of its first film, “Mad Money.”

The walls of UCLA’s Royce Hall were covered in faux cash as guests dined on food prepared by chefs Nancy Silverton, Suzanne Tracht and Carolynn Spence.

Between chatting with pic’s helmer Callie Khouri and producer Jay Cohen, Overture CEO Chris McGurk said he hopes the pic will give auds some comic relief.

“We looked at the last quarter of 2007 and there are a lot of dark, tough movies. I think audiences are waiting to be entertained and laugh.”

Overture chief operating officer Danny Rosett echoed the sentiment. “It feels like the right time to have a movie that can just be fun.”
