Two Sundance documentary favorites made their Gotham debuts last week starting with “Man on Wire” Wednesday at the Tribeca Grand Hotel.
Magnolia prexy Eamonn Bowles said he was quite surprised when he first saw the doc about high-wire performer Philippe Petit’s 1974 walk between the Twin Towers.
“To be honest when I saw ‘Man on Wire’ listed in the Sundance program I wasn’t expecting a really exciting film, so I was just floored when I saw it,” said Bowles.
The next night, “American Teen” held its bow at Pop Burger where helmer Nanette Burstein said her inspiration for the doc about high school seniors in Warsaw, Ind., came from watching a documentary called “Seventeen” in college. “The honesty and intimacy of that film blew me away,” said Burstein. “It made me want to do something about teenagers.”
