San Diego could have easily been confused for Hollywood as the city’s restaurants, hotels and even an aircraft carrier, were taken over to host Comic-Con soirees.
Sony’s “Pineapple Express” paired up with Maxim magazine to launch the stoner comedy at the confab. Pic’s stars Seth Rogen and James Franco were among the attendees at the poolside party at Hotel Solamar.
“Wrath of Con” also brought out creatives for the confab’s unofficial closing night event, held at the Hard Rock Hotel, and hosted by Lakeshore Entertainment, IESB.net and Bloody-Disgusting.com that included “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” scribe David Goyer, “Saw” franchise and “Repo! The Genetic Opera” helmer Darren Lynn Bousman and producers Daniel Alter, Adrian Askarieh and Tom DeSanto.
Venue also hosted Focus Features’ “Hamlet 2” party, while tenpercentaries William Morris, CAA and UTA held events around town.
Sci-Fi and Entertainment Weekly held their annual Comic-Con bashWarner Bros. Animation, Sony Online Entertainment, Lucasfilm, IDW, Circle of Confusion and Dark Horse Comics also sponsored top tickets, with MGM’s preem for direct-to-DVD pic “Stargate Continuum” standing out for taking place on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.
