Awards mix with critics

Critics Choice Awards draws celebrities

Following news that the Golden Globes show had just been cancelled, guests at Monday’s 13th annual Critics Choice Awards made sure to enjoy the dinner, drinks and kudos combo.

The Globes-styled gala at the Santa Monica Civic Center provided a relaxed environment for stars such as George Clooney, Katie Holmes, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Sean Penn to mix and mingle.

“No Country for Old Men” took home top honors for best picture, director and supporting actor for Javier Bardem.

When asked by host D.L. Hughley where his inspiration for portraying such an evil character came from, Bardem deadpanned: “George Bush.”

Many stars took their opportunity at the mic to touch on the writers strike. Clooney, who presented Don Cheadle with his statue, said, “All the players involved should lock themselves in a room and not come out until they finish.”

Thesp Steve Zahn joked, “It would be great if the writers would return and the critics would go on strike.”
