ITV names Iacono for global role

Exec joins from Sony Pictures

Blighty’s biggest private terrestrial web, ITV, has tapped a Sony Pictures topper to help raise its game in the global marketplace.

Peter Iacono is to become prexy and managing director of ITV Worldwide, which includes its international exploitation and ventures divisions.

He joins from Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, where he was acting prexy, international features.

ITV Worldwide is part of the company’s Global Content Division, led by managing director Dawn Airey, who came on board in the fall from satellite giant BSkyB.

Airey said: “ITV has a great track record in selling formats and programming into other territories, whether it’s ‘Dancing on Ice’ in Russia, ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ in China or the hundreds of millions of people who have seen ‘Prime Suspect’ worldwide.

“There is a real demand for U.K. content at the moment and this role will be critical in ensuring that we exploit maximum value in global markets from our programs, formats, licenses and merchandising.”

Iacono will work closely with the heads of each business in the Global Content Division to exploit ITV Prods. content.

His appointment follows that of Paul Buccieri as prexy and CEO of ITV’s U.S. production arm, Granada America, last month, for which Airey also has responsibility.

ITV aims to double production revenues to $2.4 billion by 2012.
