Cynthia Nixon joins ‘Englishman’

John Hurt reprises role as Quentin Crisp

Cynthia Nixon has joined the cast of U.K commercial web ITV’s drama “An Englishman in New York,” a follow-up to 1975 TV movie “The Naked Civil Servant.”

Nixon will play performance artist and playwright Penny Arcade in the pic, which sees John Hurt reprise his role as eccentric Englishman Quentin Crisp.

Produced by Blighty’s Leopard Films, the film follows Crisp’s move in the early 1980s from London to New York, where the gay writer and raconteur was embraced by celebrities and artists, including Arcade.

The two created the long-running performance/interview piece “The Last Will and Testament of Quentin Crisp.”

Also joining the cast is Jonathan Tucker (“The Black Donnellys”), who stars as Crisp’s friend, American artist Patrick Angus, and Swoosie Kurtz (“Pushing Daisies”) as Crisp’s agent, Connie Clausen.

Currently shooting in London and New York, the pic is being produced by Amanda Jenks and directed by Richard Laxton. Brian Fillis scripted.

Leopard’s U.S. division, meanwhile, has secured two commissions from cabler HGTV, including a series fronted by “Trading Spaces” designer Genevieve Gorder.

“Dear Genevieve” sees Gorder offering design advice to real homeowners and will premiere on HGTV in January.
