Turns out the cable news nets weren’t the only beneficiaries from this year’s heated election campaign. The week of Oct. 27 saw ABC gabber “The View” reach No. 1 in key femme demos in daytime for the first time in the show’s 12-year history, averaging a 1.5 rating and 963,000 viewers in women 18-49.
“View” averaged 4.3 million total viewers for the week, making it the show’s second-highest frame ever, with Wednesday (4.5 million) as the peak day.
“View” has been on a roll for the past few months as the presidential race heated up. Fueling the numbers were appearances by first lady-elect Michelle Obama, GOP contender John McCain and his wife, Cindy McCain. There were also fireworks from the heated discussions between the show’s pro-Obama hosts and its lone Republican, Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
