In its ongoing effort to map its future by harkening back to the past, TLC has named Rita Mullin veep of development.
She’ll be based in Discovery’s Silver Spring, Md., headquarters and report to recently installed g.m. Eileen O’Neill.
The move continues the channel’s retreat from last year’s ill-fated relocation to L.A. and attempt to become a general-entertainment outlet, returning instead to its home, health and personal-service forte.
In her previous post as development veep for Discovery Health Channel, Mullin had a hand in creating skeins “Dr. G: Medical Examiner” and “Mystery Diagnosis,” as well as “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” which came to TLC about a year ago.
Mullin will work on the cabler’s future slate with fellow senior VP Brent Zacky, who’ll oversee development from Los Angeles, where the majority of TLC’s programming staff remain.
Mullin leaves Discovery Health as it awaits its transformation into the Oprah Winfrey-based OWN channel, which will likely debut within the next 18 months.
